ACA Reflects on the Meaning of Juneteenth
One year ago, President Biden signed a bill to recognize Juneteenth as a federal holiday. Today, we take a moment to recognize the importance of this holiday, not only to our employees, but also to our clients and industry peers. Juneteenth recognizes that though President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation to free enslaved African Americans as of January 1, 1863, the enslaved people in Galveston, Texas would not learn of their freedom until two years later.
In our current times, we are two years removed from the racial injustices of George Floyd, Breanna Taylor, and others. Although we as a country are moving in the right direction, there is still much work and change to be done. We recognize that change cannot only come from legislation, but also from our continued dialogue as a nation to pursue equal rights.
ACA’s Connected Black Professionals Employee Resource Group (ACA CBP) is proud to continue this dialogue within ACA to foster and promote the talents and strengths of our black employees. In addition, ACA CBP will continue to enrich the firm’s culture through awareness, philanthropy, and talent acquisition efforts.
