Bermuda’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA): So Close and Yet So Far From GDPR
Bermuda’s Personal Information Protection Act of 2016 came into full force on January 1st, 2025. While PIPA is intended to align with international standards, such as GDPR and CCPA, it does present unique considerations specific to Bermuda’s commercial environment and an unusual collaborative approach intended by the official regulator - Bermuda’s Privacy Commissioner (PrivCom).
Join us our privacy experts, Glenn Mills and Alex Scheinman, on Tuesday, January 28th at 11:00am ET for a discussion of PIPA requirements, potential challenges surrounding compliance and implementation, and more.
We will discuss:
- A review of how PIPA compares to Europe’s landmark privacy legislation (GDPR)
- An overview of key PIPA requirements and Bermuda’s commercial environment
- Orientation on Bermuda’s Privacy Commissioner and their powers of enforcement
- Potential challenges complying with PIPA
- Recommendations for handling PIPA compliance
